Mission

4th year (10th grade) students

As the most important project for the Yachana Foundation, the Yachana Technical High School is key to succeeding in our mission to achieve sustainability through education.  Our students are becoming entrepreneurs and leaders in their communities and the Foundation's goal is to provide them with the tools they need as the present and future custodians of the Amazon Rainforest.  What the students learn during their time at Yachana provides them with practical knowledge and skills they can use to continue to create economic opportunities and bring environmentally-friendly solutions to the unique set of challenges they face in their communities.

Students in trajes típicos     ©Linda NicholsYachana Technical High School students represent five of the nine different ethnic groups that call the rainforest home and so for some, Spanish is their second language. Another mission of the Foundation is to celebrate and encourage the students to share their unique cultures and languages with each other and with our visitors from around the world.

One of the students' favorite activities is performing traditional dances in typical dress, or trajes típicos, they make themselves. They also enjoy singing and sharing about life in their remote communities located throughout the Amazon region.
